Eva Kuske has been a member of the CSLS since 2017, initially as a PhD student and later in the role of project coordinator for digital learning and as a guest lecturer. Her research interests are in the field of variationist sociolinguistics, focusing on phonetics/phonology, ethnic varieties of English, lesser-known varieties of English and regional differences in English, among other topics. In her PhD dissertation, Eva Kuske researched the emergence of an English variety spoken on the pacific island of Guam. She provided the first in-depth description of Guam English, including a description of the historical context that facilitated the rapid emergence of English on Guam, and comments on lexis, phonetics/phonology and morpho-syntax. She further investigated the development and potential future trajectory of this variety.
